The study of U.S. law includes how the U.S. legal system functions and how to operate within the U.S. legal environment. Common areas of study include the U.S. Constitution, common-law methodology, locating statutes, and learning how to cite legal authority.
The United States of America is a large country in North America, often referred to as the "USA", the "US", the "United States", "America", or simply "the States". American colleges are funded by "tuition" charged to the student, which is often quite expensive, very commonly reaching into the tens of thousands of dollars per year.

The American Legal Studies program should appeal to foreign law graduates who are encouraged to obtain legal training in U.S. law and practice in order to compete more effectively with U.S. law firms operating in foreign countries.

The Master of Laws (LL.M.) in the U.S. and Global Legal Studies is a general LL.M. program with the goal to give foreign lawyers a grounding in U.S. law. We tailor the curriculum to the background and interests of each student. Because the curriculum is flexible, we advise LLMs preparing for a U.S. bar exam to choose the LL.M. in the U.S. and Global Legal Studies with classes in bar-tested subjects.
The one-year program requires full-time attendance and 24 credit hours of course credits.

The LL.M in American Law for Foreign Lawyers program consists of a full course of study over two semesters from August to May. To meet the needs of the international LLM student, the College of Law offers specialized courses in U.S. legal education and U.S. legal writing, analysis and methodology for the international lawyer.
Students will complete an additional six to eight classes and will receive advice and guidance in their course selection. Students are invited to choose from any of the many elective courses offered by TU College of Law and the other graduate departments of The University of Tulsa.
In addition, the program offers foreign lawyers the opportunity to develop an understanding of American law as well as an opportunity to specialize in a specific area of law, such as international business law. Students of the program enjoy greater employment flexibility in their own countries, as well as the possibility to practice law in states that allow foreign lawyers to sit for the bar examination....

The LL.M in Indian law program is flexible. In consultation with the faculty, students can tailor a field of study not just to Indian law in general, but to specific sub-specialties they wish to develop. The program is available as either an academic track (emphasizing coursework) or a research track. Both tracks require successfully completing a minimum of 24 credit hours from the Indian law curriculum.
Students are encouraged to make a preliminary choice of which track they intend to pursue when they enter the program. That preliminary choice, however, is not binding on the student. The faculty is committed to working individually with each student to meet particular academic needs....

The one-year LL.M. (Master of Laws) degree is for foreign lawyers who have already earned primary law degrees from universities in their home countries. The program offers international lawyers the opportunity to develop mastery of key areas of American law at one of the nation’s top law schools, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH). LL.M. students receive legal training in American law through UNC School of Law’s nationally recognized centers and areas of academic strength in legal fields that are in high demand throughout the world (e.g., banking and finance law, energy/natural resources law, and IP law). LL.M. students take most of their classes together with J.D. students, enabling them to share their international perspectives while learning American law. LL.M. students may focus on a specified track of expertise offered within a few select areas of law, or LL.M. students can pursue a more general United States legal system coverage. There is not an official limit to the size of the LL.M. cohort each year. However, we are a newer program and thus, are smaller in size than many other LL.M. degree programs. Due to this smaller size of the program, LL.M. students receive strong individual attention and assistance from the LL.M. program administration, LL.M. faculty director, and the law school faculty. LL.M. students are provided the additional resources of two Dean’s Fellows and an Honors Writing Scholar serving as peer mentors and student advisers to the LL.M. students. ...

Individualized attention, integration with US law students, an extensive and flexible program of study, reasonable costs, and an outstanding faculty and location: these are just a few aspects of the LL.M. Program in U.S. Legal Studies that foreign law graduates can expect from the UConn Law.
The U.S. Legal Studies LL.M. Program at UConn Law accepts only a small number of highly qualified foreign law graduates each year—normally a class of between (20) and (30) students. This ensures that all admitted candidates receive individualized attention from both the faculty and staff throughout their stay. Virtually all classes are taken with J.D. students and the Law School offers among the best student-faculty ratios of any law school in the United States (11:1) as well as a dedicated staff focusing specifically on the needs of international students....

Preparing foreign lawyers for global practice
The LLM in American Law Program curriculum is specifically designed to prepare foreign lawyers for the challenge of global practice. In this program, students are fully integrated into BU Law’s JD classes, where they sit side-by-side with American students being trained in the tradition of US legal education.
This means you will not only learn the substance of US doctrine in virtually any area of interest—intellectual property, international business transactions, mergers and acquisitions, alternative dispute resolution, to name only a few—but you will learn something equally as important: how US lawyers are trained to analyze legal questions and advocate on their clients’ behalf....

General LLM Program
Director: E. Hammond
The General LL.M. program allows the student to design his or her own course of study in order to examine a range of issues in U.S. law. Students working toward the General LL.M. should consult with the senior associate dean for academic affairs and the designated thesis advisor in order to design a comprehensive program of study tailored to the student’s specific needs. Students may wish to concentrate their studies in one or more areas, such as constitutional law, criminal law, labor law, corporate law, or health care law, but may select courses from all areas of the curriculum. Thesis (6690-91) and a minimum of 20 credits are required. If the thesis is waived, an additional 4 credits, including two graded on the basis of a research paper, are required. The research paper used to satisfy the written work requirement must be at least 8,000 words in length, and U.S. law school graduates must achieve a minimum grade of B+....
